Impressions of Melaka – Living history

Unlike many ancient sites that had been abandoned for thousand of years, history of Melaka (Malacca) was relatively recent. The good things about this is that the town remains a habited, living breathing town. That makes quite some difference.

There are more traditional Malay houses outside town, and the unique decoration is the colorful tiles on the stone staircase. (you also can see a small ‘model’ house

Opposite this lovely house is the famous 400 years old Chinese temple called Cheng Hoon Teng (青云亭).

This temple is still functioning.

And just nearby, there was the Kampung Kling Mosque and Indian temple next door.

No luck in the afternoon when the sky was overcast and cloudy.

During the walk about, visitors can see many Chinese associations, and their ‘clubs’ have some of the most delicate decorations.

A good example was Eng Choon Association.
