Zhou Zhuang was a millennium old water town with maze of canals, established around 1086. It was known as the Venice of the East, and was a popular town for tourist to Shanghai or Su Zhou. I took a bus and have a day trip to have a short visit to this town.
The town was very easy to navigate, and fun on foot or on boat ride.
The old buildings were nice to visit too. Some villages still living inside. Click on the thumbnails below to view larger image.
Some villagers were carrying on with daily lives but many were dressed up with traditional costume and doing handicrafts to showcase to the visitors.
Of course, there were more impressive mansions and temples in this town. Before I wrapped up this trip, let me share with you the delicious delicacy of Zhou Zhuang – pork leg (万三蹄).
