Impressions of Melaka – Cultural Influence

With the mixied of Malay, Chinese, Indian; and the influence of Portuguese, Dutch, British, etc., Melaka today presents an unique blend of its own style. Walking on the narrow lanes, one can easily notice many small items that reflect the ‘Malacca Style’.

This very small ceramic deco was high up on the roof top. It was a phoenix. I saw sheep, dragon and other symbolic icons too.

There are many buildings using the ‘Holland bricks’, but Asian style tiles or deco.

Many with symmetricity in the design.

Ceremic indicated heavy influence by Chinese architectural style.
