Impressions of Kota Bharu 2011

It has been few years since my last visit to Kota Bharu, Kelatan. It seemed like there were some new constructions, changing of traffic route, and more old buildings converted as bird nest farm.

The old houses along the river front have mostly been demolished and converted into condominiums and shops.

Some landmarks would not change that fast, like the palaces, mosques and markets.

The images above and below is part of Istana Jahar at town center.

Nearby the palace square (there were 3 palaces: Istana Jahar, Istana Batu and the Grand Palace) was the famous central market (Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah). You should have seen the popular snapshot in the middle of the market, under the translucent ceiling.

One can notice the majority of the sellers are lady entrepreneurs, which was a common sight in Kelantan.

There are more beautiful towns and sites nearby Kota Bharu. It is also nearby to Thailand border and you can easily cross over with a valid document. There were also many Wats (Thai Buddhist temples) nearby, most famous fews were the Sleeping Buddha, Standing Buddha, and Sitting Buddha.

This trip was not a tour so no time to take visit or to take pictures. Hope to plan for a proper visiting trip to the East Coast again in the near future.
