Malioboro Street
Malioboro Street is the main shopping street in Yogyakarta.
80% of the merchandize are batik clothing.
The street is not my favourite because I seldom do shopping, but it is a good place to be during high noon as an escape from the hot sun.
Batik is famous in this region (especially Solo).
Tourists cannot ignore the large number of trishaw and horse carriage along Jalan Malioboro.
I felt sorry for the horses who have to endure the hot sun and chore of pulling the tourist.
We visited Jogja during Ramadhan (fasting month), so many Muslims were fasting from dawn to dusk.
There are plenty of food stalls along the street still serving food for the tourists.
If you are adventurous, you can sample many local snacks and dishes.
Another noticeable sight around Jogja is the quantity of graffiti. They are really colourful and interesting.
(note: the shadow casted on Batman’s face was caused by the bird cage hanging on the street. The whole row of the street was filled with bird cages).
