Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park
Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is very accessible from Kota Kinabalu city (Sabah).
20 minutes boat ride from Jesselton Point to Manukan Island. Jump into water, and you will see coral fish.
The water was not as clear as what we have seen at Pulau Redang last month. 5 minutes boat trip can transfer from Manukan to Sapi Island. You will be greeted by monitor lizard (often mistaken by tourist as the Komodo Dragon.
Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is indeed a great getaway destination for tourists who visit Kota Kinabalu. It offers a dramatic contrast to scaling the highest peak in Malaysia (Mount Kinabalu) and diving/snorkling below sea level.
Large resorts are available at Gaya Island. Smaller resort can be found at Manukan Island too.
if you travel in smaller group, I would advise to visit Sapi Island first, before the tourists throng the island for BBQ lunch during noon time.
It is cheaper and faster to eat at the local food stalls at Sapi or Manukan Island.
The tables shown in the picture above are reserved by tour group for the BBQ lunch. My rating for the BBQ lunch is 3 out of 10 points.
It was a cloudy day during our visit to TAR marine park. The usual scene at Malaysian beaches: locals are hiding in the shade while foreign tourists are sun bathing at high noon.
I think this guy was trying hard to impress the girls. Hopefully he does not need the help from the life guard.
Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is indeed a good spot to do island hopping.
