The Deities of Johor Bahru Chingay, 柔佛古庙游神之五尊神明
Yuan Tian Shang Di (元天上帝) is the highest leader amongst the Taoist Gods.
The Chinese Old Temple was empty because the five deities have been placed in the temporary shrine where the venue has large compound for the growing devotees during the Johor Bahru Chingay Festival..
There were many visitors paying tributes to the five deities before the grand processing on the 21st day of Chinese New Year.
The temporary shrine, which is better known as Xing Gong (行宫 ) was crowded with devotees, visitors as well as the processing troops.
I find that the temporary shrine is a good venue to photography if we arrive earlier. Since we were arriving late, it was challenging to get any good spot.
We also made tribute to the deities by visiting the main hall.
Zhao Da Yuan Shuai (赵大元帅) is the Five Gods of Wealth. He is always the first deity to lead the procession. You can recognize Zhao Da Yuan Shuai with the black figure.
Hua Guang Da Di (华光大帝) is the pink figure with 3 eyes.
Gan Tian Da Di (感天大帝) is the flood dragon slayer (you can see the dragon heads and he is also stepping on the tigers).
Hong Xian Da Di (洪仙大帝) can be easily recognized with the cage shrine. He is more well known in to manage irrigation and suppress the tiger threat.
We visited the Chinese Old Temple awaiting for the return of the deities from the Temporary Shrine back to the Old Temple, and it marked the end of JB Chingay 5-day Festival.
