Holi Festival 2014 (part 1)
Are you ready for some colours?
Over thousand of visitors queuing up under the hot sun to join Holi Festival 2014.
If you have not watch the movie Avatar, you can find similar creatures in this festival.
Johor Bahru Chingay 2014 柔佛古庙游神 (Part 3)
Many foreign visitors (especially kids) are fascinated with the lion dance and dragon dance.
Partly could be the adrenaline pumping drum (traditional lion dance music).
It was the variety of forms and colours that I personally find the lion/dragon dances interesting.
Johor Bahru Chingay 2014 柔佛古庙游神 (Part 2)
How ‘hot’ is Chingay in Johor Bahru?
Two of the hot spots are the VIP grandstand along Jalan Wong Ah Fook (opposite of Central and the temporary shrine.
The participants, devotees and tourists (like us) walked 10KM round circuit from the temporary shrine to towards city center.
These flags were carried by young girls, and this has been a century old tradition.
Johor Bahru Chingay 2014 柔佛古庙游神 (Part 1)
We arrived in Johor Bahru in time for the grand parade.
in year 2012, this annual festival has been gazetted as Malaysia National Heritage.
We were joining 50,000 locals and visitors to celebrate Chingay in JB on the 21st day of Chinese New Year.
It was worth the long drive from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru to attend this colourful and explosive festival.
The Deities of Johor Bahru Chingay, 柔佛古庙游神之五尊神明
Yuan Tian Shang Di (元天上帝) is the highest leader amongst the Taoist Gods.
The Chinese Old Temple was empty because the five deities have been placed in the temporary shrine where the venue has large compound for the growing devotees during the Johor Bahru Chingay Festival..
The 9th day of Chinese New Year 年初九拜天公
Touched down on homeland few hours ago. It was early morning of the 9th day into Chinese New Year (total 15 days celebration).
So we went to Klang where many Hokkien Chinese folks celebrate the day to pray to the Heaven Gods (拜天公).
To some Hokkiens, the 9th day is more important than the first day of Chinese New Year.
(I use the Line Art filter built-in to my point-and-shoot camera for the picture above, just for fun).
Popular Lunar New Year Garden Tour @ FGS Dong Zen
I am very impressed with this year flora and light decoration at FGS Dong Zen.
All the decorations were created by volunteers and funded by donors.
The end result is more impressive than the Lantern Festival organized by government and iCity LED trees.
If you are in Klang Valley and nothing to do during this long holiday, then it is worth while to visit Dong Zen at Jenjarom, Banting.
I am sure that elders and kids will enjoy the flora and lights.
