Bird Market @ Yogyakarta

Personally, I think Pasar Burung is more interesting than many of the tourist attractions in Jogja such as palace or fort.

One gets to meet the locals and discover their passion for birds as a pet.

Pets @ Pasar Burung

It was an eye opener when we visited the bird market at Yogyakarta.

The variety of birds and pets were amazing.

Pasar Giwangan (Yogyakarta)

There is a less visited (by tourist) market at the outskirt of Yogyakarta town – the fruits and vegetables wholesaler market at Giwangan district.

Pasar Giwangan (1)

We visited the market by 9am, which was already too late as main activities started early 2am.

Ramayana Ballet @ Prambanan

This open-air theatrical performance has been performing since 1990.

Ramayana Ballet Prambanan (7)

More than 250 artists are performing twice weekly during the dry season at the open air stage besides the Prambanan temple.

Ratu Boko Sunset

Ratu Boko is one of the archaeological site 3km from Prambanan Temple.

Many foreign visitors may complain that the entrance fee (IRD90,000 per head, local visitor has lower fee) is too expansive because the temple structure remains were ruins and nothing much to see (as compare to other temples nearby Jogja).

Ratu Boko is more well known for its incredible sunset view from the near 200m plateau. The dark horizon on the bottom view was the padi field and valley.

We were rushing for the dance Ramayana Ballet performance at Prambanan, thus only made a 20 minutes stop over. We were lucky enough to see a local lady posing for photo shoot.

The sky already very dark and I have to use the widest aperture to squeeze the little light out of the sky.

Now, we could move on to our quick dinner and watch the dance performance.

note: if you don’t have time and not fancy for sunset, you can happily skip this site.

Candi Sewu

Sewu temple complex is less than 1KM from Prambanan Temple.

Candi Sewu (2)

It was high noon with very harsh sunlight, so I experimented using the built in art filter in my camera to take an ‘art-line’ impression of Candi Sewu.

Candi Sewu (1)

Visitors can walk or take a free tram ride from Prambanan to Sewu. The ride is free of charge for foreign visitors (because they already paid an expansive entrance fee to the complex).

Candi Sewu (3)

One can finish visiting Candi Sewu within 30 minutes, just in time to ride the tram again to the exit point.

Candi Sewu (4)

If you don’t like stone temples and relic, then you can skip all the temples around Yogyakarta, and do nothing. SmileThat is the same as visiting Seam Reap and skip the visit to Angkor park.

Candi Prambanan

If Borobudur is the famous Buddhist temple, then Prambanan has to be the famous Hindu temple near Yogyakarta.

Candi Prambanan (1)

The center tower is 154 feet tall, it could be the highest ancient Hindu temple.
