The last tin dredge in Kinta Valley – TT5

Kinta Valley used to be the largest tin producer in its hay days. You can still see the thousands of tiny lakes on Google map, which was the left over tin mining lakes in the region.

Dredge (also known as the Iron Ship 铁船) was heavy duty mining machine to mine the tin cores. This is Tanjung Tualang 5, a 4,500 tonne beast that was erected on 1938 and ease operation after 44 years at Gopeng. In 1982, TT5 has be relocated to Chenderong (a small town between Batu Gajah and Tanjong Tualang).
